Environment Canada’s special weather advisory for Ladysmith and the surrounding area issued early on Saturday has been lifted.

The weather agency warned earlier in the afternoon of a ‘powerful storm’ approaching the BC coast tonight and Sunday.

A rainfall warning remained in effect for Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay as of 9 p.m.

The stretch of East Vancouver Island could see anywhere between 50 to 70 millimetres of rain by Monday.

“If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts,” Environment Canada noted.

Ladysmith could see upwards of 30 mm of rain during the day on Sunday.
