Crofton and Chemainus Fire Department members doused a large fire at a garage behind a Chilco Road home in Crofton late Monday morning and early afternoon.
Smoke and steam could be seen billowing high into the sky after firefighters attacked the structure with water.
“Fire was contained to a detached garage,” noted Mike Dunn, Bylaw Compliance Officer for North Cowichan’s Fire & Bylaw Services/Financial & Protective Services division.
There was some exposure damage to other outbuildings due to the heat, he added.
About 15 Crofton and Chemainus firefighters were on the scene.
A truck parked beside the garage briefly added fuel to the fire. “Something caught fire underneath the truck,” observed a neighbour.
Nobody was injured and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
