High school principal named Nanaimo-Ladysmith assistant superintendent of schools

The principal of Dover Bay Secondary School will become a school district assistant superintent.

In a press release, Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools superintendent Scott Saywell said Don Balcombe will become assistant superintendent of secondary learning effective Aug. 1.

In addition to experience as principal of the north Nanaimo high school, Balcombe also has school administration experience with secondary schools in Vernon, Kitimat and Terrace.

“Mr. Balcombe’s extensive school administration experience spans 21 years,” Saywell said in the release. “His commitment to the implementation of curriculum and assessment changes, life-long learning through his many professional development accomplishments, as well providing the voice of secondary schools at the senior leadership meetings, are but a few of the many strengths he will bring in his new role.”

Balcombe holds bachelor’s and master’s of education degrees from the University of Victoria.
