The quick action of Ladysmith and North Oyster and firefighters from the surrounding area helped stop the spread of what potentially could have been yet another wildfire.

Crews responded shortly before 9 a.m. on Monday for a call about a brush fire at the Harbour Sort facility on Brenton Page Road.

The exact location of the small blaze was not visible from the road but appeared to be up in behind a pile of debris in the far corner of the yard.

Firefighters climbed the tall mounds with hoses to get at the exact location of the flames and a large plume of smoke was visible after they dosed it with water.

Both Cranberry and North Cedar fire rescue responded with tanker trucks.

It was not immediately what caused the fire or if further investigation in pending.
