LMS’ Smith to talk boaters and business at LDBA meeting

The Ladysmith Maritime Society’s executive director Rod Smith will provide boater demographics and spending habits, along with ways that downtown businesses can better connect to these shoppers, at the LDBA’s next meeting on May 25 (Thursday).

Smith, who lives in Ladysmith with his wife Cheryl and two children, has spent the last 30 years working in senior management positions for some of Canada’s most respect charities, including: BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, The Nature Conservancy of Canada and Amnesty International.

He taught Marketing and Development for the Arts at the Banff Centre for four years and has delivered seminars and training programs internationally in a number of countries including Japan, Israel, the UK, India and the US.

As a consultant, Smith was responsible for finding multi-year funding to open up an eye clinic in Tanzania, delivered programs to end unnecessary blindness in China and India and helped Chemainus Theatre acquire the funding to build the Best Western Hotel.

The LDBA meeting is being held at the Ladysmith Waterfront Gallery at 7:30 a.m.
