Hundreds of people have already come through the doors at the 27th annual Victoria Health Show taking place Saturday and Sunday at Pearkes Rec Centre in Victoria.

Dozens of exhibitors are on hand providing detailed information on proper nutrition, therapeutic solutions, fitness programs and other aspects of healthy living.

Diane Fairey-Power came all the way from Vancouver, specifically for the health show. She signed up for the fitness bootcamp and also got her hearing tested by NexGen Hearing.

“And it’s excellent!” she laughed.

“I’m going to try a bunch of products that don’t contain soy because I’m a vegetarian and a lot of the protein things now are using soy and other GMO things that I don’t want to put into my body. I’m pretty happy to be trying things that are healthy options.”

Lynn and Catherine help run the Health Essentials booth at the health show and have been part of the show for the past six years.

“We have tons of local products that are made by people in the community,” said Lynn.

“If you haven’t been here before, everyone’s blown away by how fun it is. There are speakers, and we had Tommy Europe here this morning doing a crazy workout!”

“And with us being local, it’s great being able to see lots of people in the community coming in and getting to see everyone again is really nice,” Catherine added.

Many of the attendees that Black Press Media spoke with on Saturday were interested in nutritional health products and building a better diet.

“I like all the natural remedies, alternative solutions to pharmaceuticals,” explained Saanich resident Lorna Leggett, who says she comes here every year. “I enjoy the vitamins, meditation tapes, alkaline sticks and stuff like that for a natural lifestyle.”

Sonia Chournard has been coming to the health show for almost a decade and during that time she says it’s gotten better, bigger, and crazier.

“It’s a ritual, it’s been about 10 years of me coming here and it’s two hours well spent. It’s the best way to try products before purchasing and you can taste them and see if they work for you.”

After 10 years, Chournard is quite familiar with many of the current trends and what is available on the market. But her main focus is searching for holistic ways to look after her health.

“What I like the most, is you can talk to the people that are behind the formulas. You can have a chance that your normally wouldn’t have otherwise.”

The Victoria Health Show runs Saturday from 10-6 p.m. and Sunday from 10-5 p.m. Tickets are available at the door.
