A 47-year-old Lake Cowichan man is now facing charges after a pickup truck smashed into a utility pole in Chemainus early on Monday night.

The motorist was treated for non-life threatening injuries as a result of the single motor vehicle accident near Hemlock Street and Chemainus Road at about 4:45 p.m.

The force of the collision nearly snapped the pole at its base and caused significant damage to the front end of the truck.

Local RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, Chemainus Fire Rescue and Telus all attended the scene.

The motorist is now facing charges under the Motor Vehicle Act and Motor Vehicle Act Regulations, according to police.

“Motorists are reminded to stay alert with the onset of nicer weather conditions on the horizon,” RCMP said.
