Nanaimo RCMP recover suspected stolen tools, those on scene ‘perplexed’ how items got there

Tools seized from car in Nanaimo that was towed because its tires were three different sizes

Nanaimo RCMP have recovered some tools that are believed to have been stolen and want to return them to their owner.

According to an RCMP press release, an investigating officer responded July 26 at about 7 a.m. after a report of an individual who appeared to be slumped over in the driver’s seat of a parked car. After waking the woman and establishing she was not in medical distress, the officer turned his attention to the tools lying on the back seat of the vehicle, which included a new battery-powered Ryobi pressure washer, a Stihl weed trimmer and a Black and Decker blower and vacuum.

The woman could not offer any reasonable explanation as to how the tools ended up in her vehicle, police say, and two other men at the scene “seemed utterly perplexed” when asked about the items.

“Having heard enough, the investigating officer seized the tools for safe-keeping,” police noted.

The parked car, a Chevrolet Cobalt, had three different-size wheels and tires, one of which had no tread, so the car was towed from the scene “as it posed a risk to the motoring public.”

Anyone with information about who owns the seized items is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345, and quote file No. 2021-23180.
