A Ladysmith resident is calling on cat owners to keep their pets inside after her husband woke up to find a neighbourhood cat on their birdhouse.

The resident has asked to remain anonymous.

“My husband was up about 5:30 in the morning and he looked out the kitchen window… he seen this cat and he went out and chased it away,” she said.

They believe the cat killed a mother swallow and a nest of chicks, however there were no remains or any other evidence found in the bird house or surrounding fence area to prove the birds were killed.

“This was devastating. We just enjoyed watching the birds,” she said.

The residents want cat owners to consider the impacts their pets may be having on others before letting them outside.
