New Ladsymith Maritime Society director chosen

Tom Irwin is the new executive director of the Ladysmith Maritime Society, effective July 9.

There’s a new executive director at the Ladysmith Maritime Society.

Ladysmith Maritime Society (LMS) president Doug Bell announced Monday that Tom Irwin has accepted the society’s offer of employment as executive director, replacing Dave Ehrismann. Irwin will begin his position July 9.

“Tom brings a wide range of skills and expertise to this key role,” Bell wrote in an e-mail. “He has extensive experience in leadership roles in non-profit community organizations. Tom is a professional woodworker with a broad career in the construction business. He has marina construction and operations experience and has taught construction programs with the Lil’wat First Nation. He is a lifelong boater with offshore experience and a strong interest in West Coast heritage vessels. In his earlier years, Tom was a nationally-ranked competitive downhill skier.”

Irwin and his wife Val are long-term residents of Ladysmith.

Forty-nine people responded to the job posting, and the LMS interviewed several candidates, noted Bell.
