Ladysmith and area residents are being asked to curb their water usage as new restrictions come into effect.
The Town of Ladysmith announced Stage 2 watering restrictions will be in effect starting Friday, June 9 for residents of Ladysmith, Diamond Improvement District and Stz’uminus First Nation.
The new round of restrictions will prohibit outdoor watering between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Hand-watering ornamental plants is restricted to two hours per day, and vegetable and fruit gardens are restricted to four hours per day.

Sprinklers for lawns and gardens are only allowed for two hours on Wednesdays, for residents with even-numbered addresses, and two hours on Sundays, for those with odd-numbered addresses. Watering new lawns is allowed for one hour per day for those with a sprinkling permit, which can be obtained by calling Ladysmith infrastructure services at 250-245-6446 or emailing info@ladysmith.ca.
There are no restrictions for filling pools and hot tubs or washing vehicles and boats. According to the post, washing driveways, houses or sidewalks will be permitted under “certain circumstances,” and residents are expected to contact infrastructure services beforehand.
The second stage of restrictions are being implemented due to the province reaching the third of five levels of drought classification, the town said.
