Chemainus greeter to meet visitors
Visitors getting off the bus in Chemainus, will get a royal welcome this summer, The Chamber of Commerce has announced.
An official greeter will be on hand to meet passengers and give them tips and previews of what to expect during their stay.
“Thanks to a grant from Destination BC’s Innovation Fund, there will be a bus greeter acting to bring Visitor Services onto the street,” says a Chamber of Commerce release.
“This half-time person will have a mobile bag for brochures and a tablet, able to access the Internet.”
Much of the greeter’s time will be spent meeting buses, but he or she will also ‘set up’ on Willow Street, in Old Town and at events “to offer information to people who might not make it into the Visitor Centre.”
The greeter is expected to be on the job sometime in May.
Boil water advisory in effect for Crofton area
A Crofton boil water advisory ordered April 13 will remain in effect for at least part of the week of April 18.
Work is being done by Catalyst pulp & paper to repair a leak in the supply pipe that brings water from the Cowichan River to the Crofton Mill (the same pipe from which North Cowichan obtains water for the community of Crofton).
The boil water advisory will remain in place for a few days after the water supply line is repaired because the line must be flushed once it is repaired, and bacterial testing will have to be carried out.
“Once the results of those tests confirm that water quality requirements have been met, North Cowichan will remove the boil water advisory,” says a media release from North Cowichan.
