The Municipality of North Cowichan’s CAO Dave Devana has left quietly after a ‘mutual agreement’ with the district.

Devana had been with North Cowichan for the past seven years but was missing in the council chambers during recent meetings.

Mayor Jon Lefebure said Devana had done a lot during his tenure.

“Mr. Devana did a lot of great work and accomplished a lot in his time as CAO of North Cowichan,” Lefebure said. “It was a mutually agreed upon separation.”

Devana could not be reached for comment.

Lefebure said terms of the agreement, including any severance package, prevented him from releasing more information.

“People have been asking me about terms of settlement and that’s all confidential, as part of the agreement” he said.

Mark Ruttan, North Cowichan’s director of corporate affairs deputy CAO will step in as acting CAO for the time being.
