Residents and staff at Oyster Harbour long term care facility in Ladysmith have received their first doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

Staff were given the Pfizer vaccine, and residents were given the Moderna vaccine. Oyster Harbour manager, Tracey McKee said that the Pfizer vaccine left some staff with sore arms, but the residents had no complaints about the Moderna shots.

Despite progress on vaccinations, McKee said that Oyster Harbour isn’t out of the woods just yet.

“We still have many hoops to jump through before we return to normal,” she said.

As of Jan. 27, Oyster Harbour has not been told when to expect their second dose. McKee said that even after second doses are administered, their COVID-19 safety protocols won’t be eased until the general public has been vaccinated.

After nearly a year living under strict COVID-19 protocols, the vaccines are a welcome ray of hope for the staff and residents of Oyster Harbour.

“There’s a light at the end of the tunnel,” McKee said.
