Police search for shoplifter

Several Duncan RCMP members and a K-9 unit were out in force after a male attempted to shoplift from the 49th Parallel Grocery in Chemainus.

Several Duncan RCMP members and a K-9 unit were out in force last Wednesday after a lone male attempted to shoplift from the 49th Parallel Grocery in Chemainus.

According to Cpl. Kevin Day, spokesperson for the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP, the male stole approximately $30 worth of items before being caught by store personnel.

“When the staff attempted to keep him in the store to wait for police arrival, he fled,” he said.

Despite a thorough search of the area, the male was unable to be located and the investigation is continuing.

Police have a suspect and are following up on those leads.

“At this point, if anyone from the public has any information that could assist in our investigation, we would ask that they contact the North Cowichan RCMP or Crimestoppers,” Day said.
