It’s now election day to choose one more trustee to join Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools’ board of education.

Advance voting happened over the past week and a half and today, Jan. 15, is general voting day in the school board byelection.

The two candidates are Naomi Bailey and Steve Rae. They are vying for the seat vacated by Lisa Marie Barron, who resigned her position after being elected Nanaimo-Ladysmith MP this past fall.

Voting in today’s byelection is from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. at Dover Bay, Nanaimo District, Cedar and Ladysmith secondary schools.

Any Canadian citizens 18 years old and up who have lived in the area for at least 30 days are eligible to vote. Two pieces of identification will be required to register to vote.

All voters will be required to wear masks inside school district facilities, in line with COVID-19 health and safety protocols. Individuals unable to wear masks were accommodated at two advance voting sessions earlier this month.
