Nanaimo RCMP seized a car they believe may have been driven in hit-and-run incident in which a pedestrian was struck.
According to a press release, a 56-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the 600 block of Milton Street.
“Investigators spoke to several people who said that they did not see the collision but did hear the impact, then found the injured male on the side of the road, and called 911. They also said they heard the sound of a vehicle engine revving and driving away,” the press release noted. “Several items were found at the scene, including parts of a motor vehicle.”
At about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, RCMP officers seized a Toyota Corolla parked in the 100 block of Gillespie Street.
“Based on evidence gathered at the crash scene and damage observed to the vehicle, investigators believe it may have been involved in the hit and run incident,” the release notes.
Police are in the process of obtaining a search warrant to further examine the car. The injured man remains in hospital
Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said in the release that investigators are interested in speaking with any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police. RCMP also ask that any motorists with dash cam video who were in the vicinity of the incident review their footage.
