School back in session this week in Nanaimo-Ladysmith

School starts for 2022-23 year on Tuesday, Sept. 6

The 2022-23 school year starts this week for students in Ladysmith and Nanaimo.

Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools’ students are back in class Tuesday, Sept. 6, with the exception of kindergartners, and start times will vary depending on school.

Mountain View Elementary students will be in class from 10:45-11:45 a.m.

School for learning alternatives program students (at Woodlands Secondary) will start at noon and end at 2 p.m.

Ladysmith Secondary students begin class at 11 a.m., and while students from Grade 9-12 will be dismissed at noon, Grade 8s will be in school until 2 p.m., but will receive lunch, the district said.

Grades 9-12 at Cedar Secondary are in class from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Grade 8s are in class from 1-3:20 p.m.

John Barsby Secondary Grade 8 students will be in class from 11:30 a.m.-1:45 p.m. All other students will be in school 2-3 p.m.

Nanaimo District Secondary students from Grades 9-12 have school from 10:45-11:45 a.m and Grade 8s will be in school 12:30-2:30 p.m.

Wellington Secondary, like the other schools will see Grade 8s and other students in at different times. Grades 9-12 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and Grade 8s from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Dover Bay Secondary Grade 8 students are in class from 12-2 p.m. while Grades 9-12 are in school from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Grade 1-12 students for all other schools will be in class from 11 a.m. to noon, the district stated.

Kindergarten students will begin school in smaller groups for shorter days, according to the district, with class beginning Wednesday, Sept. 14. Parents will be receiving schedules and if they haven’t by the end of August, are asked to contact their child’s school.
