Steps for Life marks sacrifice of workers

Ladysmith residents will be hitting the streets to honour those who have been killed or injured in the name of safety.

Charlotte Williams said the Town of Ladysmith is preparing to hold a Steps for Life event on May 6.

North American Safety and Health Week is also the first week of May.

“It’s to remember the people that died for us to give us the rights we have at work now,” said Williams.

A man from Victoria will be at the event to speak about his ordeal of losing his son to a workplace accident.

Registration for the walk will take place at 10:30 a.m. with the walk beginning at 11:15 a.m.

“We have a five-km walk to do,” said Williams.

People can pledge and try to find sponsors or simply register and take part in the event.

All the money goes to Threads of Life, an organization created to help families who have experienced workplace tragedies get through their darkest hours and help get them back on their feet.

“With whatever they need ... just to be more supportive.”
