There were no serious injuries after three cars collided at a highway intersection in Ladysmith last week.
Roberts Street and the Trans-Canada Highway was the scene of another multi-vehicle incident Friday, Jan. 6, at about 2:30 p.m. A southbound Hyundai sport-utility vehicle collided with a northbound Toyota car which was attempting to turn left onto Roberts. The collision caused the car to hit a Toyota pickup which was stopped on Roberts waiting to turn. The Toyota went up onto the curb and came to a stop on the sidewalk.
According to emergency personnel at the scene, one patient was taken by ambulance to the hospital as a precaution, while other patients were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Traffic was not significantly impeded, though the section of Roberts Street close to the highway was closed for almost two hours as crews investigated and cleared the scene.
Ladysmith RCMP said neither alcohol nor speed were believed to be factors in the crash. Police said it appears the driver of the Toyota failed to yield to oncoming traffic, but charges weren’t being recommended.
According to ICBC data, there were 17 crashes at the Trans-Canada Highway-Roberts Street intersection in 2021, second-most among Ladysmith intersections, and 51 over the five-year period between 2017-2021.
