Ladysmith town council has adopted a plan that will act as a blueprint for the council’s long-term vision for the future.
At a June 6 council meeting at the Ladysmith Seniors Centre, council unanimously voted to adopt the 2023-26 strategic plan which identifies priorities for council to focus on over the next four years.
The plan’s five strategic priorities and actions will be council’s focus, and each priority has a set of specific actions to take to complete council’s goals.
Three of the priorities focus on implementing the official community plan and the waterfront area plan, and strengthening relationships with Stz’uminus First Nation which will focus’ on density and growth in town, revitalizing the waterfront and business diversification while partnering with Stz’uminus to help meet those goals.
Renewing infrastructure and advancing projects that address climate change is part of the core infrastructure priority for the town. The town plans to meet the goals by ensuring the town’s water supply system meets residents needs and implementing an asset management plan to replace and maintain current infrastructure.
The last priority is focusing on the economy by promoting an environment that facilitates business development. The town plans to pursue community improvement grants, support the Downtown Business Association, develop the Arts and Heritage Hub and promote walking, biking and tourism to meet their economic goals.
Coun. Ray Gourley expressed his excitement for the plan and thanked staff and council. Mayor Aaron Stone thanked the community as “a lot of what’s contained in [the plan] comes from a lot of the engagement we’ve done throughout the years.”
