Truck leaves oil trail

An early morning spill from a truck leaving the Western Forest Products mill in Ladysmith

An early morning spill from a truck leaving the Western Forest Products mill in Ladysmith left a trail of hydraulic oil along Ludlow Drive and the Trans-Canada Highway all the way to the Cedar Highway.

The spill occurred at about 6:30 a.m. Sept. 29, said Ladysmith Fire Rescue Chief Ray Delcourt. Firefighters and workers from the mill put down absorbent along roadways up to the Trans-Canada Highway, where Ministry of Transportation workers dealt with the cleanup from that point.

“The key is that it wasn’t raining,” Delcourt said. “If it was it would have spread and been much more slippery, especially on the highway.”

Cleanup was completed by the end of the day.
