Two people were taken to hospital with serious injuries following an ATV accident Friday night in the Copper Canyon area west of Chemainus.

One of them was airlifted to hospital on the Lower Mainland.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP, along with BC Emergency Health Services and North Cowichan Fire Department fire rescue, were called to the scene of a collision involving an ATV. Both Chemainus and Crofton fire trucks and personnel attended.

“Two people riding a side-by-side in Copper Canyon had crashed into the guard rail and went off the bridge landing in the Chemainus River,” noted Madonna Saunderson, B.C. RCMP media relations spokesperson. “Fire rescue successfully pulled one person from the water and the individuals, both adults, were taken to hospital.”

The investigation continues.
