March 30, 1926 - June 20, 2018
Qualicum Beach resident, Alveira Forbes passed away at the age of 92 on June 20, 2018 at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with family by her side. She was born Alveira Dagmar Finlay to Andrew and Margaret Finlay on March 30, 1926 in Glasgow Scotland, the tenth in a family of eleven children.

Alveira was only thirteen when the war started and over the next few years she did a variety of work. Everything from making dinghies for the Dunlop Rubber Company, to milking cows in the Land Army.

On April 22, 1946, Alveira married a Canadian private from the Winnipeg Rifles, Clyde (Bud) McGiveny Forbes. Upon his discharge from the army, they moved to his family home in New Brunswick then on to Ontario and finally to Vancouver Island while raising their family of five children. They were married for 29 years until Clyde passed away in 1975. Alveira lost her only son Derek in 2004. She was the last one of all her siblings to pass on.

She said she was born to the sound of a bagpipe chanter and was a music lover all her life, playing guitar and singing with the family at nearly every get together. She was feisty and outgoing and always dressed well and kept a lovely home filled with collections of china and glassware. She was known to be a good cook and was continually sewing, knitting or embroidering. She kept very busy with her activities and her faith, but always kept in touch with her family. As one of Jehovah's Witness's she studied the bible daily.

She leaves behind her daughters: Connie (Tobey)Davidson, Deborah (Mike) Butler, Janice (Stephen) Rice, and Monet Forbes (partner Dave), and 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday July 21, 2018 at 2 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 423 -1st Ave. W in Qualicum Beach, B.C. followed by a tea.
