STRICKLAND, Amy (Amiee) Ruth

Sept. 23, 1922 – June 16, 2011

Our amazingly talented musician, Amy Strickland has left her piano behind and is with her Lord & Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Amy leaves behind her daughter, Lynore (Donald) Harrington; her son Donald; her grandchildren: Duane, Daryl (Jennifer), Neil (Jennifer), Ellian (David) Corry, Donald James; her great-grandchildren: Brittany & Chase, Logan & Petra, Jacob & Lukas; her sister, Audrey; and many nieces and nephews. Amy was predeceased by her husband, the love of her life Donald T. Strickland in 1998; her parents, James & Emily Clyde; her sisters Doreen, Una & Margaret; and her brothers Fay & Leonard.

Amy was born in Dauphin, Manitoba where at the age of 5, she met her Don. They attended school together, as well as church youth group activities.

Amy studied piano throughout her school years, including going to Winnipeg and The Conservatory in Toronto to complete 2 degrees.

Amy & Don were married in 1943 when Don was home on leave from The Navy (RCNVR). After the war, they moved to Vancouver where she continued performing and teaching.

In 1983, they moved to Saltair to their scenic waterfront home they called “Paradise Acre”. Amy soon became involved in the musical scene and was well known for playing at services at a variety of churches. She belonged to the Chemainus Seniors Centre where she played piano for many senior’s musicals. She had the Choral Group that sang in many concerts over the years.

In recent years, her body and brilliant mind betrayed her. She resided at The Lodge on 4th in Ladysmith from March 2009 until her death.

We choose to remember the vibrant, interested and interesting lady who freely used her musical gifts to bring joy to so many.

Celebration of Life will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church, 3318 River Road, Chemainus, BC, Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 1:30 pm.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated.
