In Loving Memory ~
Arvo passed peacefully at the Wexford Creek Seniors Community. He was predeceased by his father Frans (Frank d.1964), his mother Lempi (d.1999) and his beloved wife Joyce (d. 2013). He was an only child and is survived by many cousins and aunts and uncles both in Canada and Finland.
Arvo graduated from Nanaimo High School in 1954 and started a career in welding and heavy duty mechanics. He lived all of his life in the mid Island area, mostly around Ladysmith where he grew up, and for the second half of his life in Nanaimo. He worked in the forest industry at Kelsey Bay and for Macmillan Bloedel//Weyerhauser.
He and Joyce enjoyed a very active retirement, travelling the world, dancing (which is how they met), and playing the accordion. Arvo was active in many local social groups including the Sons of Norway, the Eagles Lodge, the Nanaimo Bathtub Race Society and many others. They spent much of their free time lawn bowling, and 5 and 10 pin bowling winning many trophies and awards.
A memorial service will be held at the Eagles Hall on First Street in Ladysmith on Sunday, September 8, 2024 from 1 to 4 PM.
