Astrid Evelyn YOUNG (CHERNEFF)

Astrid passed away peacefully at home Friday, November 18, 2005 with her husband Maurice Cherneff at her side. Born Jan. 11, 1930 in Prince George, BC to Karin and Martin Carlson, Astrid went on to live in Prince Rupert, Vancouver, Victoria, Toronto, Calgary, and since 1997, Ladysmith, BC. Astrid was a strong and independent woman. She turned her capable hands to many different tasks in her life. While in Victoria she worked in public relations for Gordon Root and Associates. In Toronto she co-authored a number of books with husband Scott Young. Calgary knew her as the box office manager for Theatre Calgary. Her last years in Ladysmith were lovingly spent looking after her husband Maurice Cherneff and her home. She was a member of the the Coast Guard Auxiliary and president of the Ladysmith and District Marine Rescue Society where her hard work and fundraising ability will be sorely missed. Astrid especially enjoyed painting, boating and the arts. Astrid is survived by her husband Maurice Cherneff, and pre-deceased by previous husbands Gavin Mead and Scott Young, She will be sadly missed by Maurice and her daughters Deirdre Young (Brian Beemer) of Iron Bridge On, and Astrid Young of Picton, On, grandchildren David Young (Lori) of Peterborough, On, Kristin Beemer, Eric Beemer, Alex Beemer of Iron Bridge On, great-granddaughter Tearna Rose, Ethan Young, and Evan Richards. She also leaves behind brother M. Edward Carlson of Nanaimo plus nieces and nephew. A special thanks to Dr. David Welch for his caring. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society would be appreciated. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 26 at Telford's Chapel in Ladysmith at 11:00 am.
