CARL GIRLING STEVENS

STEVENS, Carl Girling born in Winnipeg on February 1st, 1918, passed away October 28, 2007. Carl worked in the woods cutting cordwood, pulpwood and hewing ties from the age of 14 until he came to Vancouver Island in March 1939. He went to work in Hillcrest sawmill west of Duncan, worked in the Victoria Lumber Co. from August 1940 until he joined the Army in April 1942. He served with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles overseas and came back to Chemainus until he retired. Predeceased by his wife Doris May (Hurley) in December 1992, Carl is survived by son Mel (Beryl), daughter Karen (Mark) Worthington, grandson Neil (Shannon), granddaughter Melanie (Kevin) Watson and great granchildren: Dakota & Jacob Stevens and Trey & Kealey Watson. We would like to thank the staff and residence of La Rosa Gardens in Ladysmith and also the nursing staff at Palliative Care Nanaimo Hospital for their care and compassion. No service by request. Donations can be made in Carl's memory to the charity of your choice or to the Childrens Hospital.
