David (Dave) William
Born Sept. 28, 1909 passed away this past July 11, at age 92 and his loving wife Dorothy Reed (nee Cloke) also age 92, passed away this passed Oct. 9th. The couple eloped to Seattle in 1930 thus celebrating 72 years of marriage. David’s father, Frank A. Reed was a midshipman on a sailing ship who jumped ship in Chemainus in 1896. David’s mother was Annie May Ward of Springbrook, (recognized today as the Plantation), in Saltair. David had one sibling, James A. Reed. Dorothy’s father, Samuel Cloke, was a miner in Ladysmith, and in later years a fisherman. Dorothy’s mother was Minnie Cloke (Smales). Dorothy had a twin brother, Nathaniel, also brothers Laurence and John Cloke. The couple were survived by their children Shirley Pickering of Victoria and David Gordon Reed of Nanaimo as well as 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. They will be greatly missed by all.
