Dorothea May Hartle

Born March 21, 1924, died April 5, 2014. Predeceased by husband Reverend Frederick Hartle. Sadly missed by son Phillip & daughter-in-law Joan; grandchildren Collette (husband Ashley and great-grandchild Isobel), Richard (and Laura) and Christopher - all in England and in Ladysmith, her daughter Ruth and son-in-law John, grandchildren Caitlin and Kerys. She will also be missed by her large family across Europe, as well as her Malli family, friends and neighbours in Ladysmith.

Born in Barry, South Wales Dorothea came to Canada in 1968 and lived in Princeton before coming to Ladysmith in 1971.

Many Ladysmith people will miss her famous banana bread which she faithfully delivered weekly to staff at the Town of Ladysmith office and to special people like Gladys and Victor Malli.

She enjoyed and appreciated the support of her family, friends and neighbours, as well as that of St. John’s Anglican Church in Ladysmith and St. Michael’s in Chemainus. The parishioners, clergy and the church were a big part of her life, not just as the minister’s wife but as a fellow parishioner; she was also a keen member of the St. John’s choir.

Recently she had moved to Dovehill House and enjoyed the care of the staff and company of the other residents. The family would like to thank them as well as her neighbours, friends and family in Ladysmith, Dr. Lisinski and staff at Ladysmith, Chemainus and Cowichan Hospitals for their kindness and care of Mum recently and over the years.

The funeral will be at St. Michael and All Angels Church, Chemainus on Thursday April 10th at 1pm. Her ashes will be interred next to Fred’s in the Anglican Cathedral Crypt in Victoria at a future date.
