EDITH LOUISA (ROBERTSON) passed away at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, on October 24, 2002 at the age of 89 years. Survived by 1 son George (Myrna) Robertson of Nanaimo, 2 daughters Wendy (John) Waterman of Courtenay and Judy Clark (Wes Sheard) of Nanaimo, stepson Mike (Penny) Nicks of Nanaimo, 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Estelle Bates of Courtenay, brother-in-law Ben Nicholas of Courtenay, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her first husband George Robertson in 1963; her second husband Mike Nicks in 1986; her parents Robert and Louisa Bates and her brother George Bates. Mom was born and raised in Courtenay to a very well known pioneer family. “The Carwithen Clan”. Mom married George Robertson from Cumberland, a logger, in 1937 and they started their life together in Ladysmith where they raised three children. She loved Ladysmith and was very involved in the community. Mom was a Director on the foundation for building the Ladysmith Hospital, member of the Auxilliary to the Ladysmith Legion for 22 years, Hospital Auxilliary for 25 years and a member of the Native Daughters. Mom was also involved in the Historical Society in Ladysmith and Courtenay. Dad died after 25 years of marriage and several years later she married Mike Nicks. After Mike’s retirement they moved to Mom’s favorite spot “Seal Bay” in Courtenay. They resided there until Mike’s death and Mom moved back to Ladysmith. Failing health brought her to Nanaimo Travellers Lodge where she resided until her death. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 02, 2002 at 2:30 P.M. at Coast Westerly, 1590 Cliffe Ave., Courtenay .
