Elaine June Kuusisto
February 17th 1941-June 19th 2016
Without warning the community and the world lost a loving and caring person who always had a cheerful smile and infectious laugh for everyone.
Predeceased by her parents Ida and Albert Hannuksela of Surrey B.C. Survived by her husband, Esa of 47 years, Sister Donella (Brooks), Daughter Karen (Potts),Son Kenneth {Tracey), Step granddaughter, TI Ann, Grandson, Parker.
Elaine started her working career upon graduation at a Bank of Montreal branch on Granville St., Vancouver. Later she worked at branches in Newton, Campbell River and Ladysmith. She finished her working career with Canada Post as a Rural Route courier. At this she was well liked by all, First Nations, etc. She went out of her way that mail always found the correct recipient even if inadequately addressed.
She was renowned for her skills on the loom making Finnish style rag rugs on a sturdy loom built by her father. She performed all manner of farm chores whenever needed to raise cattle, chickens, garden produce and bee-keeping. Besides membership in the Arbutus Weavers Guild and Nanaimo Bee Keepers, she found time to participate in the North Oyster Ratepayers Association. Her love and laughter will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
The family wish to thank Dr. Fergus Kennedy and all the staff at I.C.U., Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
