July 31, 1929 – March 8, 2021
Elaine Doskotch ended her journey peacefully on March 8, 2021 at the age of 91. Elaine was born to Lydia and M. Fred Chutskoff in Blackie, Alberta.
Elaine is predeceased by her husband William (Bill) of over 65 years. Elaine will be very fondly remembered by her three children: Sonya Emperingham (Roy), Ron Doskotch (Heather), and Donna Cunningham (Bart).
She was a beloved “baba”, or babushka, to her six grandchildren: Julia Dewolf (Lloyd), Bret Cunningham (Sharlene), Landon Cunningham; Laura Doskotch, Ken Doskotch (Stephanie); and Ryan Emperingham (Katie). Baba took great pleasure in visits from her seven great-grandchildren.
A farm girl at heart, Elaine’s love of animals and nature was strong, especially for the birds that would visit the farm where she and Bill raised beef cattle for over 60 years. Her flower garden was her constant hobby and truly a work of art; she always imparted gardening knowledge to all who enquired.
Elaine and Bill’s vegetable garden and fruit trees provided sustenance to all who visited – one was never to leave empty handed. Elaine’s kitchen welcomed a large extended family and neighbours for dinners, tea, or just a chat – she always took the time to hear what was happening in her family’s lives.
Elaine can feel proud that she passed on her love for perfecting perogies and other traditional Ukrainian food to her children and grandchildren, and shared her values of hard work, integrity, and curiosity.
A heartfelt thanks go out to the staff of Berwick on the Lake for making Elaine’s last home a safe and caring one. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Salvation Army. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
