Emile, L.F BELTGENS

BELTGENS, Emile, L.F. died unexpectedly September 7, 2002. He has rejoined his wife of 50 years, Louisa (Loes), who passed away June 2, 2001. Emile was born in Indonesia April 11, 1922. He spent the early part of his life in Indonesia and Holland, and immigrated to Canada in 1950. He was a well respected school teacher, first in Ladysmith, then John Barsby in Nanaimo, before moving to Victoria in 1963 where he taught at Cloverdale Elementary and then Central Junior High until he retired. Emile then became an artist, mastering stained glass and was often seen at the Moss Street Paint-in and many art shows. His work can be found in many homes around Victoria. Emile’s dedication to his art work still came a distant second to his love and devotion in caring for Loes who suffered for many years with rheumatoid arthritis. Opa will be greatly missed by his children, Gerald (Eileen), Betty Loof (David), Peter (Sharon), and Paula Scott (David) and grandchildren; Talia, Celine, Sabrina, Graham, Carla, Sam, Nicole, Jeremy, Dylan and Molly. He is survived by his brothers, Louis, Jacques (Annie) in Ladysmith, Gerard (Helma) and sister Lies in Holland and their families. The family would like to thank Dr.’s G. Dewar, JPWhite, anesthetist Anne and the nurses in the ICU at Royal Jubilee Hospital who were all exceptionally kind and caring. A special thank you to Sylvia. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 5, 2002 at 2pm at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 4049 Gordon Head Road, followed by a reception in the Church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victoria Hospice Society.
