Passed away peacefully on August 22, 2003 at the age of 92. Predeceased by her loving husband John, her brother James Jones, sister-in-law Isabel, nephews Robert and Donald. She is survived by her nephew Richard Jones, great-nephew Kevin (Anna), great-niece Chelsea and numerous Gourlay family members. She will be deeply missed by Ramona. Born in Ladysmith on September 3, 1910, Florence taught school in Ladysmith until her retirement. She was a charter member of The Native Daughters and a Past Grand Secretary of the Provincial Chapter. She was also a member of a local walking group. She and John spent many happy hours with family and friends at the beach on their 3-acre waterfront property on Chemainus Road. In 1995, they donated the land to the Town of Ladysmith as a park so others could enjoy it there. That same year they were honoured as Citizens of the Year. Her interests included gardening, walking, travelling and reading. She encouraged children to develop a love for reading books. In her earlier years, she was an avid swimmer and was known to swim across the bay. She also enjoyed cooking and loved to entertain family and friends. She will be fondly remembered for her kindness and generosity to people, her love of flowers, the outdoors and children.
