Uncle Fred will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews for gifts of boxes of Smarties for “big, haywire dumb nuts.”

Fred lived his lfe on the Westcoast, first as a welder in Ocean Falls, and then on the tugs that plied the waters on the coast that he loved. Fred spent many years in Tahsis before moving to Ladysmith. He was an active participant in over 20 years of “Great Walks” from Gold River to Tahsis. He enjoyed the company and stories of his many friends in the Ancient Mariners and at the Ocean Falls lunches. Fred was a storyteller and shared his memories keeping the spirit of Ocean Falls alive for many of us.

Pop slipped away, finally at peace after a long battle with heart disease. He is walking mountain paths and swimming oceans.

Our heartfelt thanks to the nurses and doctors at Cowichan General Hospital, 2nd floor, especially Susan and Heather, Carol and Marion (ICU) who eased Fred’s passing with their care and compassion. Also special thanks to Dr. Lang and Dr. Spence who saw Fred through so much and always had time for conversations.
