It is with profound sadness that the we announce the passing of Frederick William Harker. Fred passed peacefully in the early hours of September 1st in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

He was born in Bishop Aucklund, England in 1923 and served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. Fred arrived from England with his family in 1952 and spent the remainder of his life in Ladysmith. He worked for over 30 years at Crofton Pulp & Paper, his last position being Assistant Mechanical Superintendent. He spent his retirement years golfing, travelling and enjoying his morning coffee clutches at Renee's and The Bean Time.

He is predeceased his first wife Mary in 2000, and mourned by his wife Maxine, children: Carole Sutherland, (Jim) Ladysmith, Susan Ranger, (Bill) Nanaimo, Janet Finegan, (Ken) Florida; Gordon Harker, Prince Rupert, Maryann Harker, Surrey and Neil Harker, Ladysmith. Also mourning his passing are his many friends that he valued greatly. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

No service by request. A tea to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, Sept. 23rd between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm in the activity room at Gulfview Estates, 385 Davis Road, Ladysmith.
