George Raymond, “Ray” STEWART

Passed away peacefully at Ladysmith and District General Hospital on February 8, 2005 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Sidney, BC on July 23, 1951, he had been a

resident of Ladysmith since 2000. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Diane; brothers, Bill (Nanaimo), Ron [Pat] (Ottawa) and Ian (Victoria). Daughters: Dawn & grandson Jeffrey, Jody and grandson Reid and Kimberley all of Calgary; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father Bill in 1992 and

mother Jessie in 2003. Ray graduated from Victoria High School in 1970 and joined the Calgary City Police Force in 1973. After 25 years of service he retired in August of 1998. In 2000 Ray and Diane, moved from Airdrie, Alberta to Ladysmith, BC.

Ray worked for the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires until poor health forced him to curtail his activities. He was a proud member of the “Smokin Oldies” Car Club of Nanaimo and the Foothills Street Rod Association of Calgary and enjoyed many hours working on his ‘40 Chev Coupe. He was also active in the Retired Calgary City Police group. Ray was a current member of Ladysmith Branch 171 of the Royal Canadian Legion and recently received his 25 year pin.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Britton-Foster, the nurses, many other staff at LDGH and Hospice members for their compassionate support and care.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Society or to the charity of one’s choice.

A Celebration of Ray’s Life will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2005 at 2:00 pm, at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 171, 621 First Ave., Ladysmith, BC.

There will also be a memorial service in Calgary at The Sheraton Cavalier Hotel, 2620 37th, Ave. N.E. on Friday, February 25, 2005 at 2:00 pm.

Ray will be greatly missed by all those touched by his big heart.
