April 10, 1929 – December 20, 2016

Gordon was born in Wetaskiwin, Alberta and died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Velma, daughter Lesley (Ted), son Ian (Terry), grandchildren Megan (Tyler), Derek (Morgan), and great grandchildren Rhys and Vada. He is predeceased by daughter Alison and sister Joyce. In his words – “So my last day has come and gone, and I’ve stepped into my place in the cycle of life. I hope to see some old buddies, my sister Joyce and our daughter Alison at whatever place I am to rest for all eternity. I marvel at the deeds and accomplishments in obits I read. I’ve done nothing spectacular to match what I see in the papers every day. I’ve belonged to many organizations and clubs, contributing my bit to their success, but no more than every other member. My pride is in the great family I had a part in raising. Those of you close to our family know their qualities. And for our great-grandchildren, only GG and Bucky know the deep pleasure they bring. I also prided myself on my loyalty to my employer and to individuals I reported to over the years. To those who worked for me and with me, you were treasures every one. Please raise a toast to Vel, my bride of 66 years. She deserves all expressions of your love as she has had mine. Where will we meet again? Friends and family, with my little dog Clancy, will be gathered around a campfire, where we will pick up where we left off, and enjoy each other all over again.” Donations can be made online to Dying with Dignity Canada. A glass will be raised in Gord’s honour on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 3:00 at the Cassidy Mobile Home Park Hall.
