Westergaard, Graham Arden
August 12, 1950 – February 19, 2017
Husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to many passed away suddenly, but peacefully in Victoria on February 19, 2017 – with many efforts from his doctors and nursing staff at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. For their efforts and heartfelt care the family is forever grateful.
He is predeceased by his parents Ruth and Mel Westergaard. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marti, and their children, Bret (Maria), Nanaimo, and Casey, Ladysmith; sisters Heather (Wally) Barrhead, AB, and Gail (Jacques) Hughenden, AB, and his two grandchildren Ayden Graham and Sydney Marie of Nanaimo.
Graham’s loves were his family and friends. He enjoyed the island lifestyle traveling during summers and weekends camping wherever he could. Many friends were made over the years for our children and us. His most recent travels were a trip to China with our youngest son Casey and Disneyland, CA with our son Bret and family.
Born and raised in Edmonton until moving to Ladysmith in the summer of ’89, he and Marti took on the challenge of small business in Ladysmith for many years. In his final endeavor he had the pleasure of joining the 49th Parallel family in the Cedar location for nine years. He retired at the age of 66.
Graham was an avid hockey fan, his team being the Edmonton Oilers. He held season tickets from the WHA days and then the NHL, attending four Stanley Cup wins in Edmonton with their son Bret as soon as he was born. The man was a hockey NUT and followed the Oilers faithfully through the team’s ups and downs. There is nothing Graham didn’t know about the Oilers and the game of hockey.
He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his wife, children, family, and friends. Be at peace now knowing how much we love you and always will. Sadly gone but never forgotten…
