Greta passed away peacefully at Chemainus Health Care Centre on April 4, 2008, with family at her side. She is survived by her brother Ian and sister Pat in England; son John (Rosemary) in Scotland, son Tim (Nola) in Chemainus, daughter Lyn (Dwight) in Yellowpoint; grandchildren Robin and Catriona in Scotland and Geoffrey and Jaime in Chemainus. She was predeceased by husband Rex in 2004, brothers Keith and Geoff, and sisters Lottie and Dulcie.

Greta was born in Darlington, England. She served in the radar section of the army during the Second World War. She married Rex in 1946, lived in Arundel for many years and then came to Canada in 1966, living in Nanaimo, Saltair and finally Ladysmith before moving to a care facility a year and a half ago.

Greta was an avid reader and gardener. She loved to listen to music, especially classical music. Greta was also an accomplished knitter and made a number of "Cowichan-style" sweaters and toques. She was a good cook and was known for her delicious baking. In recent years, her interests focussed around her family with particular interest in her grandchildren's pursuits and her cat, Bramley. Greta will be sadly missed.

A memorial service and tea will be held on Friday, April 11th at 11:30 at St. John's Anglican church at 486 Jubilee St. in Duncan.
