Passed away into the arms of the Lord on Dec. 10, 2006 at Nanaimo Hospital Palliative Care unit after a long illness (Amyloidosis). Heather was born on Feb. 4, 1963 and is survived by husband, Brad and two children, Luke (11) and Eleanor (8), as well as her parents Brian and Lorraine Abbott and sister Valerie (Tom) Irwin and Niece Amy Irwin.
Heather taught in Quesnel in 1986 after graduating from U.Vic and subsequently relocated to Nanaimo where she taught at John Barsby School for eight years. She then transferred to Ladysmith Secondary School where she has taught since 1998.
Heather was an avid gardener who enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables with great success. She had a wonderful, loving personality that will be long remembered by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 394 Shepherd Avenue, Nanaimo at 12:30 pm, Saturday December 16, 2006 followed by a reception at Ladysmith Secondary School. There will be a short graveside service at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens for family and friends following the church service.
The family would like to express its thanks to the nursing staff at the Nanaimo Hospital Palliative Care Unit for the loving care shown to the family and to Heather, to the caring staff at Ladysmith Secondary School and to the Ladysmith community.
