Humphry Loranger DAVY

born November 18, 1914 in Montreal, Quebec, passed away gently and surrounded by love, May 12, 2005 in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Predeceased by his daughter Margaret in 1997, Humphry was a cherished Husband, Father, Poppa and a friend to many. Humphry is greatly missed by his loving family, his beloved wife of 55 years Margaret, his children Jeremy (Donna), Kathleen (Ian), John (Nancy), and Joan. He is fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Shawn, Michael, John, Moragh, Danielle, Stuart, Mathew, Jaimie, Alastair, Justin, Jordan, Jamie and great-granddaughter Kayla. Also remembered by Robin, Murray, Dan, and numerous colleagues and good friends.

Humphry started his journalistic career with the Quebec Chronicle - Telegraph, later serving overseas with the RCAF Bomber command during WWII. In 1946 he moved to the West Coast joining the Victoria Daily Times where he remained until his retirement in 1979. Although he covered many topics during his career he was most passionate about land conservancy, multi-culturalism, and the arts. After his retirement, Margaret and Humphry resided in Port Renfrew and Comox. He was an active member of the Comox Valley Natural History Society.

Special thanks to Dr. Weight, the Nanaimo Hospital Palliative Care staff, and Nanaimo Hospice Society, for their loving care during Humphry’s last days.

A celebration of Humphry’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on May 24, 2005 at the Nanaimo Golf Club, 2800 Highland Blvd (parallel to the Island Highway between Departure Bay Road and Bowen Road). In lieu of flowers, donations in Humphry’s name to The Land Conservancy (TLC) - for Sooke Potholes Park Preservation, 2709 Shoreline Dr., Victoria, BC V9B 1M5 would be appreciated.
