In Loving Memory ~

Ian passed away at his home peacefully, where he is survived by his two sons Colin and Allan, sister Jennifer Alexander (Ian) and extended family.

Ian was born in Morpeth, England but moved and grew up in Carnwath, Scotland with his parents Elizabeth and George, and two sisters Valerie and Jennifer. After completing school he joined the British Merchant Navy in 1962 and sailed as an apprentice seaman for a number of years seeing large parts of the world from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans. On return to the UK, where there were limited opportunities for young people in the mid-60s, he decided to try his luck in the colonies. His plan was to head to the West Coast of Canada, where there were some old family friends and if that did not work out he would carry on to New Zealand.

In 1967 he arrived in Canada and found employment with the MacMillan Bloedel Forestry company where he worked until his retirement in 2009. During his tenure he held a number of roles but ended up as an Inventory Analysist at their Nanaimo office.

Ian settled in Yellow Point area outside of Ladysmith, where he met Elizabeth "Betty" Gwendoline Allan (2015) as he was helping a friend herd sheep and she was getting gardening tips from a neighbor. They married in 1978 after building their own home and raising a family. Ian remained in his house until he passed.

Ian will be remembered by his family and friends as an avid

reader, dog lover, and supportive husband and father.

A celebration of life will be organized and held in early 2025.
