Born in Carnforth Lancashire England on February 26, 1912, passed away August 9, 2002 in Nanaimo, B.C. Ed is predeceased by: his mother Mina and father George and brothers Tom, George and Lou and sisters Rose and Muriel. He is survived by: bother Alvin (Raynell) in Victoria, sisters-in-law; Muriel (Ottawa) Irene (Nanaimo) and nieces and nephews; Lyle Pelter, Brent Sharla and Clark Pelter, Elaine Gelling (Victoria), Jim Galloway (Arbutus Ridge), Barry Pelter (Crofton), Bob Galloway (Chemainus), Diane Burt, Mick Rukin (Cassidy), Maimee Tomlinson (Royston), Wayne Pelter (Kimberly) and cousins in England. Ed came to Canada with family in 1918 taking up residence at the mining town of Phoenix, BC. Moved to Cassidy in 1922, where the family started mixed farming then dairy farming which he and his father George continued until 1962. During those years Ed became an expert herdsman with a high producing herd of which he was justly proud. His services were often requested, and always cheerfully given to other farmers. Following sale of the dairy farm, Ed moved to his acreage historically known as “Frosts Field” after a pioneer of the area. He developed more cultivated land which he later sold after reserving 5 acres which along with his birds and two dogs developed into his “Heaven on Earth” much admired by visitors, friends and relatives over the years. Ed was a sensitive, but kindly, generous and hospitable man, always enjoying visits and contacts with family and friends. The family would like to thank Doctors and Staff of the Nanaimo Regional Hospital for their efforts in his final days. Memorial Service will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel, One Newcastle Avenue, Nanaimo on Thursday, August 15 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
