In Loving Memory ~

Joe McKinley was born in Chemainus on April 22, 1945, and passed away in Duncan Hospital on October 7, 2024.

He was predeceased by his father, John in 1993, his mother, Myrtle in 1998, his brother, George in 2017, and his brother, Jim in 2022.

He is survived by his wife, Joan (Gust), his daughter, Christina, son-in-law, Shawn and his brother, Jack.

His passions were his family, woodworking in his shop and quadding with his friends. Among other things, he crafted children's tables and chair sets that he donated to charity.

He spent many years as a board member of the Diamond Improvement District and for a period of time was a representative for the local Longshoreman's Union.

He and Joan travelled the world and spent winter months in their park model home in Mesa, Arizona where he taught tennis lessons.

Joe was an adventurer, a skier, a hiker, and a mountain climber, a canoeist, husband and father. His favourite adventure was a canoe trip down the Yukon River from Whitehorse to Dawson City following the 1898 footsteps of his grandfather. Joe was a very generous and caring person willing to help with any job that had to be done.

He will be greatly missed.
