April 1, 1934 - February 18, 2021
Johanna van der Weyde passed away peacefully on the morning of February 18th, 2021 in her 87th year.
She was a devoted wife of 65 years, loving mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. Johanna was born on April 1st, 1934 in The Hague, The Netherlands where she met and married her husband Cornelis on September 29th, 1955.
They immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1957 to join her sister, Pauline, who had immigrated a few years prior. Johanna and Cornelis started their family in 1960 and moved to British Columbia to raise their three children Len, Marlene, and Winn.
Johanna spent many years working as a Residential Care Aid, and when she retired, she enjoyed many hours caring for her grandchildren who gave her endless joy.
She loved music for her entire life and played bass guitar and sang in the choir. She also loved nature, enjoying birds, mountains, and walks along the sea. Johanna was an incredibly giving person who was always ready with a helping hand and did so with a smile on her face.
She is survived by her loving husband Cornelis, her children Len (Shauna), Marlene (Andy), Winn (Len), her grandchildren Daylan (Brook), Jillian (Derek), Milayne (Stephen), Janey, Nicole (Colin), and Elysia, and great-grandchildren Rielyn, Everett, Arlo, and Oden.
We wish to thank Dr. Kilvert and the incredibly caring staff at the Oyster Harbour Long Term Care Home in Ladysmith. We miss you Joopie, Mom, Nana!
