After a long, well fought battle with cancer, Birgit Olga Kierulf Johansen passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on December 7, 2005.
She was born and raised in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she worked as an English teacher until she met and fell in love with Tommy Johansen. She then moved to Canada in 1980, where she earned her degree in nursing. Birgit is survived by Tommy, daughter Charlotte, son David in Denmark with wife Lone and two grand girls Annabel and Selena, and son Simon with girlfriend Colby Spencer in Vancouver. She is predeceased by her sister-in-law Lillian, lost to breast cancer. She was a profound lover of music, the arts and her family, and was forced to struggle through many trials in her time: “I tried my best in this life.” By request, please make donations to the Cancer Society for Pancreatic Cancer in lieu of flowers.
A Celebration of Birgit’s life will be held on Friday, December 16, 2005 at 1:00 pm in the Eagle’s Hall, Ladysmith, BC.
