MAXWELL, John Harris
January 19, 1924— April 9, 2007
Beloved husband, loving father and grandfather.
Born in Chase, B.C. Only son of Durrell and Eliza Maxwell.
In 1931, the family moved to Chemainus. Immediately after graduation from Ladysmith High School, John joined the R.C.A.F. and served overseas with Bomber Command (Pathfinder Force), was twice mentioned in dispatches and was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross." He got safely home to Chemainus in 1945. In 1949, he married Lillian Brock of Wyevale, Ontario who was nursing in the Chemainus Hospital at that time. In 1955, John rejoined the R.C.A.F. where he served as an air traffic controller (and later as an instructor) at air bases from Beaverbank, N.S. to Tofino, B.C. and Great Falls, Montana. John also spent a year in the Arctic on the "Dewline." After retirement from the Air Force, John worked for 12 years with W.C.B. in accident prevention.
John was predeceased by both parents and his two sisters, Florence Miller and Jeanette
Hart. Survived by loving wife of 57 years, Lillian; sons Grant, Ian (Jennifer), Bruce;
daughter Mary; grandchildren Hannah (Ernie), Tyler (Charmaine), Corey, James and
Anecca; and great grandson Harley. Also survived by brother-in-law Elmore Hart in
Chemainus and numerous other family in B.C. and Ontario.
