John Holtum

Dec. 13th, 2016

John Holtum passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Victoria. John was born in 1947 to Fred and Jean Holtum. He grew up in Victoria and married Linda in 1973.

Soon after they married, they ventured off to Quesnel to start their life together, and that’s where John got his first band teaching job. During their time in Quesnel, they had their 2 children, Chad and Christina, met life long friends and had too many adventures to share. 7 years later John was offered a job in Ladysmith teaching music. Always yearning to be back on the island John, Linda and the 2 little ones jumped at the chance. John and Linda raised their family in Ladysmith, where they resided for 29 years. John loved being a teacher and being involved in the community. Eventually they settled in Victoria to be closer to family and enjoy many fun filled times.

John was known for his love of Linda and family, being an awesome Grandpa, integrity, friendships, being humble, as an adventurous spirit, and always willing to do a home upgrade for you. He had a twinkle in his eyes as he drew you in with his warm sense of humour and smile. He had a thirst for travel, great food, red wine, music, mustangs and his grand kids, (4 weeks before he passed he was riding space mountain alongside his 4 grand boys in Disneyland).

John is survived by his wife Linda; his children Chad (Erica), and Christina (Fred); his sister Pat Kobley (Herb); grandchildren Carter, Nathan, James, and Andrew; Mother/Father-in-law Al and Ethel Henderson.

A celebration of life will be set in the New Year.

In lieu of flowers please donate to Victoria Hospice Society.

We would like to say a special thank you to the Doctors; Dr Paul Sobkin, Dr Kevin Rioux, and Dr Sulpher, for the exceptional care that he received.
